Death Watch: Madison Avenue

And another retailer bites the dust. A Sergio Rossi representative has confirmed that they will be closing all of their stores in the United States (well, they only had three: one in New York City, Los Angeles, and Hawaii) by early 2009. This revelation comes right on the heels of their huge sample sale last week where $700 pumps were going for $50 and $1,000 boots were $100. Shoppers can still find the Italian fashion designer's shoes and handbags at department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdord Goodman, as well as online at shopbop.com and net-a-porter.com. Just a week ago, Alessandro Dell'Acqua also announced that they were closing shop and shutting down their Madison Avenue store. As consumers begin to clutch their 2.55s a little tighter, we can only wonder who's going to be next?
